3-day Adventure

3-day Stavanger Adventure with hikes to Preikestolen & Kjerag, and a high-speed cruise in Lysefjorden

Valid for travel 12 May 2018 – 30 Aug 2018

Two of the most amazing mountain formations in Norway are the Pulpit Rock and the Kjerag boulder, both to be found in the stunning Lysefjord outside Stavanger. World famous for their breathtaking views and heart-pounding heights, and the only way to get to them is by hiking! This is an adventurous 3-day itinerary including guided hikes to the Pulpit Rock and Kjerag, and in between a high-speed action-packed RIB cruise in the Lysefjord.

Before planning this adventure, please note that while most people who are in general good condition will be able to get to the Pulpit Rock, hiking to Kjerag is a bit more demanding. You should be in a good condition and have previous hiking experience.

Your hotel is located the middle of Stavanger right by the waterfront and offers a beautiful view of the harbour. Breakfast buffet, afternoon sweets, and an evening meal are included for our guests, every day. Close to shopping and restaurants.

We arrange transportation, including the scenic ferry ride, and make sure you get back and forth in a comfortable and convenient way. An early start puts us in position at the trail to Preikestolen before the crowds arrive. Your local guide will come along for the whole trip to make sure you have the best possible experience. He/she will stop at all the all the good photo and viewing points (even the secret ones), and will bring selected Norwegian trail snacks for the hike.

The hike itself takes about 5 hours round trip and is 9 kilometers long, consisting of slightly hilly terrain. You should be in generally good physical condition, and children should be 8 years or older. DAY 2:

Tour: Action-packed RIB cruise

This is the most engaging, but still safe, action-packed experience at sea! Get your energy levels up during an exciting ride on the waves along the stunning West-Coast, enjoying the magic sceneries. This RIB boat experience will most certainly get the adrenaline rushing through your veins!

On this Lysefjord cruise, we rock the accelerator and speed up into one of Norway’s most impressive fjords. The Lysefjord or the «Fjord of the lights» is Stavanger’s pride and charm.

Get inspired by the beautiful landscapes as you stop to catch your breath and fully take in the scenery. It is here you truly get in touch with the enchanting surroundings and all that is real. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a majestic eagle gliding through the air or a seal, eager to catch some sun along the fjord’s mountain ledges.

Your captain takes you as close as can be to the vertical mountain drops to feel, smell and taste the pure water freshness of the Hengjane waterfall, or according to Norse mythology, the «water of wisdom». It is these miraculous drops of spring water your fill your horns with that turn you into a real Viking!

At the peer in Vågen at noon, close to the Fishmarket, you will meet the crew from FjordEvents and they will dress you up in comfortable suits and lifejackets for your safety and comfort. After a safety brief, you will enter the boat and find a soft, comfy seat to sit on. We have waterproof bags for your luggage and personal belongings. You can hold your camera ready during the ride.

The Lysefjord cruise starts slowly along the beautiful harbor of Stavanger and when we pass under the brigde, the RIB will speed up, and we will cruise at 30-35 knots (60 km/h) towards the amazing fjords. You will be able to enjoy the mountains and waterfalls surrounding the Lysefjord from the seaside, and if we are lucky we will get a glimpse of wild animals like seals, porpoises and sea eagles. The highlights of the journey is the narrow gap into the Vagabond Cave and view the Pulpit Rock from sea level. After a breathtaking ride close to the steep, tall rocks, we head back to Stavanger, where our Lysefjord cruise ends in the very centre of Stavanger, where the trip started.

DAY 3:

Tour: Kjerag Summer Hike “Beat the Crowds”
The guide from Outdoorlife Norway will pick you up at the hotel approx 05:00 am for the guided summer hike to the famous Kjerag boulder. An early start allows us to avoid most of the crowds.

While being transported to the edge of the fjord, which takes about 1 hour, you’ll be able to catch glimpses of some of Norway’s stunning landscapes. Upon arrival at the shore of the Høgsfjord, you’ll board a speed-ferry. The cruise will transport you into the Lysefjord where you will pass waterfalls, abandoned farms, and the famous Preikestolen cliff, which towers 604 meters above sea-level.

The Kjerag hike is relatively demanding: you’ll trek 11 kilometres (round-trip) with an ascent of 800 meters in 5.5 hours. During the approximately 2.5-hour hike to the boulder, you’ll encounter 3 periods of steep climbing interspersed with 2 shallow valleys. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of Lysebotn, which is situated at the head of the Lysefjord. The final 2 kilometres leading up to the Kjerag boulder are relatively flat and will allow you to focus more on the spectacular nature around you. Once you reach the edge of the mountain’s plateau, while standing on a 1000-meter-high cliff, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the 42-kilometre-long Lysefjord.

Cliff-side, you’ll have plenty of time to rest and enjoy your packed lunch. If you’re among the brave, you’ll have the opportunity to stand atop the Kjerag boulder.

After the lunch break, your guide will lead you back down to the Eagle’s Nest, which takes approximately 2 hours. On the drive back to Stavanger, the guide will navigate over a mountain pass through the municipality of Sirdal. You’ll pass through a barren, glacier-scoured landscape that many experience as being moon-like.

The tour ends back in Stavanger in the late afternoon.
