Norway’s fourth-largest city has a rich cultural history dating back to the 9th century, which includes iron-age farms, viking landmarks, and the country’s oldest cathedral. The region also boasts an extensive network of bike paths/trails, making it a dream for cycling enthusiasts.

Tour Description

Join a guided 4-hour cycling tour and experience the best panoramic views Stavanger has to offer! Feel the wind in your hair while avoiding the crowds. Take in Stavanger’s quaint neighborhoods and historic architecture. Stand a top the peninsula’s highest viewpoint and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire region. Relax while enjoying your lunch where vikings once stood.

This is a moderately demanding 4-hour, 35-kilometer bike ride. The terrain in and around Stavanger varies between gradual slopes to steep hills. Day to day, weather varies between clear blue skies and heavy rainfall. It is therefore important that participants be in good physical condition and have previous cycling experience.

 

Your guide will meet you at at the meeting point in Stavanger (see above for address) where you’ll be allocated a suitable bicycle and helmet. After a quick briefing, you’ll be on your way, headed towards the city’s best viewpoints. From above, you’ll get a panoramic view of the heart of Stavanger, which is comprised mainly of 18 – 19th century red-roofed, wooden houses. On the horizon, you’ll be able to see some of the fjords and mountain ranges that surround the city.


Your guide will then lead you out of the city through charming, historic neighborhoods and onward to the peninsula’s highest hilltop, Ullandhaug. From there, you’ll get an extraordinary view of the entire region. On clear days, you’ll be able to see all the way to the North Sea as well as Norway’s inland mountain massifs. From there, your guide will lead you onward to one of the city’s most historic monuments, Swords in the Rock, where you’ll rest for lunch on the edge of the Hafrsfjord bay. After the break, you’ll cycle back towards the city. Along the way, you’ll pass some of Stavanger’s pristine lakes and rugged north Atlantic coastline.

 

The tour ends at where we met at approximately 14:00 (2:00pm).

Moderate Difficulty: Suitable for adults (16 yrs. +) who are in general good condition, and have previous biking experience.

Total Distance: 35 kilometers
Terrain: Paved and/or compact dirt ‘shared-use’ paths & roads (with motor vehicles), ranging from gradual slopes to steep hills.

Changes due to weather

Due to the possibility of rapidly-changing weather conditions, it may be necessary to make changes to scheduled trips. In the event that your trip needs to be rescheduled for another day or cancelled on short notice, you may choose between joining the rescheduled trip or getting a refund. In the event that weather conditions deteriorate during your trip, it may be necessary to turn around on the trail or head back earlier than planned. If this happens, no refunds will be given.
