Preikestolen Spring hike

Grab the chance to beat the crowds and enjoy Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock) and the Lysefjord during the serenity of Norway’s springtime.
The busy summer season may be just around the corner, but during the springtime, visitor numbers remain low. Grab the chance to beat the crowds and enjoy Preikestolen and the Lysefjord during the serenity of Norway’s springtime.

The Pulpit Rock

The Pulpit Rock, or Preikestolen as we say in Norwegian, has been named one of the world’s most spectacular viewing points by both CNN Go and Lonely Planet. It is the most visited nature attraction in Norway, and is a must-see for visitors to Stavanger!

Every year, The Pulpit Rock welcomes more visitors than any other nature-destination in Norway. In 2017, approximately 285,000 hikers made their way up to the top of the imposing cliff that hangs 604 meters above the Lysefjord.

Tour Description

Your adventure will begin in the crispness of a bright green -and sometimes snowy- spring landscape. Your professional guide will lead you up through the shifting terrain and onward to the mountain’s plateau. There, winter’s ice and snow often last well into springtime. This early in the season, weather conditions are constantly changing. As needed, you’ll adjust the equipment you use (ice spikes, etc.) to match the changes in weather. After approximately* 2.5 – 3.5 hours of trekking, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. Standing on the 604-meter-high cliff, the views of the Lysefjord are awe-inspiring. You’ll be one of the very few that have experienced Preikestolen off-season.

If conditions allow, your guide will take a slightly different route on the way back down from Preikestolen. This alternative path is not found on any maps, and will therefore allow you to avoid anyone who is on their way up the main trail. Your adventure will come to its conclusion beside the Refsvatn Lake where you’ll enjoy freshly-baked bread and a well-deserved (and delicious!) bowl of homemade soup at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. After the soup-break and a few last breathes of crisp mountain air, you’ll return as a group to Stavanger.
